Is Using a Penske Truck Safe During COVID-19?

Removal Truck Waiting To Be Unloaded Outside New Home On Moving Day

Penske trucks are rental trucks used when moving. But is it safe to use a rented vehicle or moving services when moving during COVID-19? The simple answer is yes, if you take the right precautions.

The American Moving & Storage Association has made many recommendations for both movers and their clients. So, if you follow them accordingly and practice social distancing and hand washing often, you and your loved ones will be safe.

Keep reading to learn more about the advised measures every moving company and homeowner should follow.

Be Clear of the Process

When contacting a moving company make sure they’re reliable and professional, review references and check if they’re registered with FMCSA. Currently, companies are doing virtual surveys of homes to provide an accurate moving estimate.

Also, it’s a good idea to designate one family member to be the only one interacting with the crew and letting them know all the necessary information and instructions.

Use New Packing Supplies

Typically, when we think about packing we assume that supermarket, office, and storage boxes are a choice, but during COVID-19 times, we want to be extra safe, so it’s not a good idea to use items that have been exposed to so many people.

When contacting a professional moving company, ask if they offer packing and unpacking services. If they do, they’ll use new boxes, papers, and tape, and you won’t have to worry about contaminating your personal belongings.

Clean & Sanitize

Before the moving team arrives, it’s a good idea to clean and disinfect commonly touched areas, such as doorknobs, light switches, desks, etc. Your movers and you/your family should wear masks and keep six feet apart to ensure everyone’s safety.

Our Penske Trucks

If you’re renting a Penske truck or using a moving company that uses them, make sure they’re sanitizing the truck before use. Here’s the protocol D&D Movers follows to properly clean their Penske trucks:

  • Wash the truck before arriving at your home with soap, water, and diluted bleach.
  • Use alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol.
  • Clean with detergent or soap and water all the armrests, door handles, seat belt buckles, doors and windows, light and air controls, and so on. Then, apply sanitizer.
  • Have paper towels, hand sanitizer, and alcohol-based wipes or spray available in the truck.
  • Every driver and crew team is requested to use face masks and maintain social distance measures.

Keep in mind that AMS advised people over the age of 60 or part of a vulnerable group to postpone their moving, if possible. If you fall into these categories, reconsider your move.
